On Monday, January 28th, a few hours after the devastating tornado that hit Cuba's capital, the Israel Santos metal production company (commercially known as Duralmet), received the government request to support the restoration of the extensive damage caused by the meteorological phenomenon.

Las Tunas, Cuba.- The industrial engineer Raúl Quiñones Romero, general director, explains that the demand consists, until now, in the manufacture of 313 modules for the construction of houses, which include five double, two simple, one kitchen and the same amount of bathroom windows, and two doors.

He confirms that the first 270 of the total committed have already been assembled, at an average rate of 40 per day, "something possible, due to the quality, knowledge and skill of the workforce and their deep sense of belonging and responsibility".

The director says that they hired the services of transportation to the Encarga base business unit (UEB). He stresses the responsibility with which that entity has assumed the task: "they are placing us every day the trucks agreed and that shows the sensitivity of the Cubans before events of this nature."

To fulfill the commitment made, Duralmet workers labor voluntary hours and set up shifts on Saturdays, a decision well received in the different workshops.

Elisa Leyva Segura, secretary general of the Trade Union Bureau, highlights the willingness of the group that remains in their posts ready to undertake the missions entrusted to them, and give the answer that the victims expect from their compatriots.

"Although these productions are part of our routines, we now assume them in a very special way, because we know that they are aimed at recovery efforts from the damage caused by the tornado and are proof of the solidarity of Las Tunas and the people of Cuba with those affected. We are ready to work 24 hours a day if necessary; I speak on behalf of my workmates," says Juan Carlos Medina, loader in the entity.
