Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel spoke Friday with the population in the context of the government visit to the eastern province of Las Tunas.

 

Las Tunas, Cuba.- As has happened in his tours of the country since he took office in April last year, the president received samples of affection and respect from women, men, the elderly and children gathered spontaneously knowing of his presence.

Díaz-Canel visited the Calixto García pre-university institute, in which he exchanged views with students and teachers, as part of his objective of evaluating the progress of programs and actions of socio-economic interest. 

The Cuban president urged the adolescents to make a conscious vote in the referendum on February 24th, in which more than eight million Cubans are called to ratify the Constitution approved on December 22 by the National Assembly of People's Power.

He also visited the Raymundo Castro pediatric hospital, where he received information on health indicators of the institution, including the infant mortality rate, which is at zero.

After an intense morning and evening, the president went to the Mártires de Las Tunas pediatric hospital, the second facility of its kind that he visited on Friday.

At the medical center he talked with mothers and health professionals, and learned that the hospital achieved an infant mortality of only 0.4 per thousand live births.

Late at night, the head of state toured areas of the city and talked to Las Tunas inhabitants, as he did earlier in his journeys through other Cuban provinces at the head of the Council of Ministers.
