Las Tunas, Cuba - The Cuban leader addressed the main Communist Party and governmental authorities, as well as institutional, business and the mass organizations representatives, during the final meeting of the visit in which the first Vice-president Salvador Valdés Mesa, several vice presidents of the Council of Ministers and more than a dozen ministers participated.
Las Tunas, said Díaz-Canel, stands out for a work that has consolidated important tasks without fanfare. "That speaks of the talent of its people and the experiences that can be learned here," he noted. He emphatically told the ministers to analyze and propose an immediate solution to the shortage of oil, chicken, eggs and flour both here and in the rest of eastern Cuba.
He also instructed to accelerate the delivery of construction materials to those affected by the extreme weather events of recent years. Thus while all the housing damages caused by Hurricane Irma in 2017 will be resolved in 2019; there are still more than 8,000 victims of Ike in 2008 waiting for. Solutions must be found to enable those families to rebuild their homes with the support of the State and their own efforts.
On the other hand, he praised health indicators in this region of the country that, in the previous year, recorded an infant mortality rate of 3.8 per thousand live births and no maternal deaths. In addition, he mentioned the epidemiological stability, even with the complexities of drought. The summary of the visit also included the analysis of the use of fuel, on which Díaz-Canel warned that lack of control, illegalities and indiscipline can not harm the economy or the people.
The purpose of these tours through the provinces, he explained, is to strengthen the link between the different agencies of the central administration of the State with their subordinates, to overthrow the bureaucratic obstacles that hinder economic and social processes in the provinces and municipalities. It is, he stressed, a moment in which we all give an account of our management.
