An ecological classroom that enhances the work of environmental education of children and youth is opened in the Botanical Garden of Las Tunas, an installation that has a collection of more than 130 species of palms, one of the largest in the country.

Las Tunas, Cuba.- Equipped with modern technology acquired through a cooperation project, the site systematically welcomes students from primary school to university, to instruct them in love and care of the environment, with practical and theoretical actions.

Luis Yordan González Contreras, director of the Garden, stressed the value of the classroom not only for the preparation of the youngest generations but also for the specialists and technicians of the installation that now have better conditions for their improvement.

To expand the possibilities of environmental education, the center has the José Martí Forest that among other values treasures plants grown with seeds brought from Playitas de Cajobabo, where José Martí landed in 1895, and a replica of Rancho de Tavera, where he was promoted to Major General of the Ejército Libertador, on April 15 of that year.

The Botanical Garden of Las Tunas, in addition to children and young people, also includes the rest of the population in its didactic effort in favor of the protection of flora and fauna, through visits and other actions, through the extensive program that its specialists carry out for this purpose.
