Las Tunas,Cuba.- Once again, the polling centers presided by the Flag of the Solitary Star and the Royal Palm Shield were scenes of an act of democracy. The glorious National Anthem marked the beginning of a day that promised, and it fulfilled its historical character.
Many voters confirmed to 26Digital that the Cubans led the conclusion of an act of collective creation, whose essential purpose is the full realization of the human being, which is the center of the ideology that we as a society have decided to follow. There are many and diverse reasons that motivated them. Some voters speak of patriotism, others of civic responsibility, but the certain thing is that a strong and resounding Yes was expressed by their own hand.
"For us, it has been very special being so young to be able to participate in such a transcendental moment. Since the beginning of the process, I have been listening to my grandmother's memories of the referendum of 1976, how that text shook the country from its foundations and revolutionized society on the basis of fairer and more humanist principles. I believe that is what the document we approved today will do: revolutionize," said Marianlis Torres Suárez, a Biology student at the University of Las Tunas.
She believes that students should feel proud, because many of the approaches that emerged in universities were taken into account in the final text. She also believes that "it was not easy, because at all times we have tried to move towards the future, to build the country we want, without renouncing the principles of Marx and Fidel".
Alexánder Torrejón, professor of History of a Senior High School, was among the first voters in his polling place and sayd that for him it was a commitment to the heroes whose actions and example he has studied for years. He also said that "It has been a sublime opportunity that the people decide their future and enrich Socialist democracy. We are, as well as Julio Antonio Mella, in times of founding."
Dima Cisneros Saavedra, a university student, said that "The Sixth Congress of the Communist Party of Cuba and the approval of new Guidelines to update our economic and social model demonstrated the need to update the Magna Carta, because it became obsolete in relation to the current context."
"However, with the vote of this Sunday, the process was not concluded; we opened the doors for deeper changes within society, to solve the problems we face."
Yeimí Espinosa, a young teacher, commented that "The people of Las Tunas are aware of the fate of those who live in this nation. Millions of people around the world fight for rights denied to them, including basic human rights such as food, water, health and education.
Meanwhile, we Cubans voted today for a Constitution that declares that our first Law will be the cult of the full dignity of the human being and that we will never return to capitalism, a regime based on the exploitation of man by man. That, definitely, is the will of the people. "
