Las Tunas, Cuba.- Martha Rodríguez Martínez, president of the CEP, explained that 39,331 people said no against the constitutional text, another nine thousand 93 deposited their ballots in blank and the suffrage of 5,292 was annulled. The main electoral authority in the territory meant that both the high percentage of citizens' turnout to the polls and 96.12 percent of valid ballots say a lot of citizen support for the Cuban electoral system and their culture in this type of democratic exercise.
Rodríguez Martínez extended congratulatory message "to the members of the polling centers, the committees at different levels, the pioneers, collaborators and representatives of companies, institutions and political and mass organizations that supported us and made possible this successful Referendum."
The "Balcony of Eastern Cuba" was consistent with the national tendency where the majority of the Cuban electorate overwhelmingly ratified this new Magna Carta that incorporates and deepens the social and political rights of Cubans, tempering the organization of State and Government to the new objective conditions of the country.
The first version of this Constitution was presented to the Parliament in mid-2018 and submitted for four months to a process of popular consultation in which more than eight million Cubans took part.
Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez after knowing the results said "I feel an immense pride to be part of our heroic, brave and strong people. People like ours always deserves victory. What a tremendous tribute to the nation's funders, to Martí, Fidel and Raúl. We won and we go for more. Viva #Cuba Libre! #SomosCuba #SomosContinuidad #60YMás"
