Las Tunas, Cuba.- Abel Peña Alfonso, Director of Projects of the Municipal Council of People's Power, said that in this sense, important international agreements and projects that contribute to local development through training, energy procurement and food production have been implemented.
"Currently, more than 70 families benefit from biogas through the construction of biodigesters, Abel pointed out. From the integral farms, each producer has taken advantage of the resources with the premise of respect for the environment.
"Through the Biomass Cuba Project we have the aspiration to manufacture biodiesel, with plants that produce seeds, from which oil is extracted, which becomes fuel".
"The assistance to the 26 de Julio credit and services cooperative (CCS) arrived by means of the Inter-cooperation Project of the Cooperatives (Apoccop), sponsored by Switzerland. A premise was set up to create a craft workshop that, in addition to generating jobs, guarantees better conditions for the farmers in the area."
"Thanks to the Local Agricultural Innovation Project (PIAL, in Spanish), many of the producers have joined the Agroecology movement, and the knowledge provided by the specialists has taught them to apply organic fertilizer to their crops, produce compost, humus, and use science to achieve greater economic performances.
"We have achieved satisfactory results, but we hope that 2019 will be even more prosperous for the productive forms of the municipality. Our local development strategy is increasingly ambitious, in order to take advantage of the territory's resources and contribute to the quality of life of the population."
