Las Tunas, Cuba.- The workshop was presided by Ariel Santana Santiesteban, member of the Central Committee and first secretary of the Cuban Communist Party (PCC) in the province, and Jaime Chiang Vega, deputy to the Cuban Parliament and president of the Provincial Assembly of the People's Power.
The forum brought together the presidents of the municipal governments, as well as the first secretaries of the PCC at that same level and, above all, a representation of constituency delegates and official of the main economic and social entities here.
During the meeting, there was consensus that this method of work is an unparalleled experience to find alternative procedures to the difficulties that affect the population of Las Tunas, because after six years of existence it has solved more than six thousand concerns raised by citizens, equivalent to 72 percent of all the manifested worries.
However, the emphasis of the meeting was on how to deal with the weakening detected in recent months in the participation in the Integrated Community Work of managers of social or economic institutions, as well as representatives of the Communist Party and the Government. In this regard, the delegates pointed out the key role that the joint effort of the Community Work Groups has in reversing this situation.
Ariel Santana Santiesteban said that it is not justified the inappropriate follow-up to the people's approaches nor that "Por Nosotros Mismos" is reduced to the fleeting visit of the authorities on . He also stressed the importance of closer links with universities, which can provide an important wealth of knowledge to strengthen it.
Similarly, Jaime Chiang Vega called to review the work system implemented in each territory to bring together all social protagonists in the communities and increase popular participation in these spaces.
