Las Tunas, Cuba.- Kennia Batista, technical director of the Water Resource Management Company explained to 26Digital that the situation is a direct consequence of a rainy season not very favorable so far this year.
"From January to date, from a historical cumulative of 470,5 millimeters of rainfall, only 439,2 have precipitated; in the rainy season it should reach 107 millimeters, but have only precipitated 87,3.
"It is significant to explain that, in spite of that, five of the six reservoirs for the supply the population guarantee six-month coverage with the storage water, some, even more; only "Cayojo" does not meet this condition."
The directive pointed out that it is not enough that it rains, those precipitations, she said, "must occur in the zones of the basins." She also stressed the importance of adopting liquid savings measures in each home and workplace.
Las Tunas has a storage capacity of 350 million cubic meters of water. It is the driest province in Cuba, with an annual average rainfall of 1,057 millimeters.
