Las Tunas, Cuba.- Efrain Ferrás Garcés, director of inspection and supervision of the Provincial Delegation of Hydraulic Resources, assured that the objective is to enforce what is established by Law 24, which regulates and orders the integrated and sustainable management of this renewable and natural limited resource.
He said that this is necessary to face disobedience and violations that are frequently done in the hydraulic infrastructure and that cause damages in the service of such a precious asset for life.
The official mentioned among the worst affectations, the illegal connections in water suppliers and pipelines, broken channels, planting in the edges of protection of reservoirs, unauthorized fishing, grazing of animals in areas close to dams and contamination of both surface water and the underground.
He also reported that there are 18 water suppliers in the province, some of them with considerable water loss due to violations, such as La Cana and Birama underground basins; as well as the Playuela dam in Majibacoa, the three most important, where many people install connections to water their plantations.
Ferrás Garcés recalled that no one can live without water and that resource needs a series of requirements to treat it, conduct it and take it to the whole society.
Therefore, the rigor of control over the use and protection of water is increased and it is noted that those who violate the regulations are subject to administrative, civil or criminal liability.
This is also a contribution to the education of the population and entities in the efficient and rational use of the increasingly vulnerable and scarce resource.
