Las Tunas, Cuba.- The president of the Provincial Assembly of the People's Power, Jaime Ernesto Chiang Vega, began the interventions with an acknowledgment to the people "for having put sensibility on fashion these days."
This situation "cannot be a vain slogan"; it becomes indispensable, he said, to understand the effects of this situation in all the spheres of the society.
He called for broadening cooperation between state agencies and said that work is being done to cause the least possible damage to the population, but that does not mean that we have no problems. There are and there will be during the remaining days of September.
He insisted on the importance of timely accessing the information and, even, of looking for it," and commented that "each management official must think of more than one solution to a problem and take into account the opinion of the people at all times."
Meanwhile, Carlos Arias Sobrino, director of the Electric Company, said that 70 percent of the fuel consumed in Las Tunas is in the residential sector. And, although the concrete measures so far are focused on the state sector, he insisted on the need for people to become aware, turn off what they do not need at peak times and contribute, to avoid the always annoying blackouts.
Referring to these, he stated that, if necessary, timely information will be given about the hour and place of the affectation. "Everything is already organized by blocks; we hope we don't have to get there. We will protect the water supply to the population and also the vital services."
The socio-administrative buildings will not use the air conditioning at any time of the day. Work times are readjusted for two fundamental reasons: because we can save, for example, the consumption of one hour of energy; and also because the working people can move to their home at earlier times.
That also contributes to the transport situation, which makes it difficult to move from one place to another, and also because if you arrive home earlier, cooking food does not necessarily concentrate during peak hours.
José Luis Mora Pérez, director of the Cuban Oil Company (Cupet) here, reaffirmed in his words the considerations given by the Cuban Energy minister, Raúl García, at the Round Table prime TV program. He stressed that this weekend begins the stabilization of the distribution of liquefied gas."
"Today came the first arrival and tomorrow we will have another. The latter begins to be sold on Sunday, not to wait another day," both cylinders of 10 kg, which are those of the private sector, and those of 45 kg, belonging to some entities. He explained that the reduction of existing arrears so far will begin to be noticeable from next week.
Luis Enrique Arias, director of Transportation, assured that hemodialysis and funeral services are guaranteed throughout the territory. He said that the most demanded urban transport routes are maintained (7, 1, 6) and although with fewer buses available, but with those of greater capacity of passengers, in order to carry as many people as possible on each trip, mainly in the peak hours.
He also said that a reinforcement bus was set up from La Martilla to the hospitals' area, which allows the tour of almost the entire city. In addition, another will cover the route from La Caldosa to the downtown city.
On interprovincial transport, he noted that three of the daily departures to Havana were canceled. It remains only at 7:30 pm. From the 15th of this month, the tickets depend on the capacities that are available by train.
There is no solid strategy for trips from the municipal capitals to the city of Las Tunas, and vice versa. The manager explained, in this regard, that it depends on the fuel allocation that the country delivers to the province. Other details will be given in the next few days.
Salvador Sariol, director of the Business Group of Commerce, said that the products of the basic basket are guaranteed within the planned stage. The food stores reorganize their schedules from 7:00 am to 11:00 am and, in the afternoons, between 2:00 pm and 5:00 pm. In the case of the Ideal markets, schedules are maintained, although without the use of air conditioning.
More than 55 units and 11 centers of elaboration of the Gastronomy continue using firewood or coal. "There may be delays in the distribution, mainly of meat products, but they will always arrive. We have chicken, fish and sausage. Other products are in port and will arrive. The biggest problem is in its distribution."
Nílser Piñeda, provincial director of Education, highlighted the passionate work of the 639 institutions of that sector in Las Tunas. And he said that "nothing will stop educational development."
The entry and exit times to the 28 children's daycare centers in the province will be made more flexible, due to the lack of urban transport. Schools will concentrate their classes in the mornings. In the afternoons, teachers will leave specific assignments and study houses will be activated. The same will happen in the Pre-University and Technical and Professional teachings.
The primary semi-boarding and secondary schools are guaranteed to cook food. In the case of this last teaching, the lunch schedule of students who choose to go home is extended until 2:00 pm.
Students of boarding educational centers that are at home these days are guaranteed their transfer to schools. The next teaching break will be in October and the fuel situation will be more stable by that date.
Dr. Luis Manuel Pérez Concepción, director of Public Health, praised the effort and commitment of the more than 21 thousand workers in the sector in Las Tunas. He confirmed that the generators are technically fit and with the necessary fuel for any contingency; as well as the engineering and boiler systems are ready.
He called to address the epidemiological situation. The province maintains dengue transmission, especially in the municipalities of Las Tunas, Majibacoa and Jobabo. "Fuel for fumigation processes is guaranteed."
Likewise, the schedules of visits to the hospitals are made more flexible, analyzing the need for each case.
As a conclusion, the president of the Government, Jaime Chiang, stressed that "we are serene, but aware of what we have to do." He alluded to the month of September as a stage of challenges that Las Tunas' inhabitants have to assume in a special way.
By this time we celebrate the foundation of the city (September 30) and it is also the month that recalls the burning of Las Tunas by the troops under General Vicente García González. In this regard, he stressed: "Victory will be ours!"
