The demand for electricity has so far decreased an average of 2.5 MW/H per day in Las Tunas, a concrete response of the population and the state entities to the measures adopted, because of the fuel shortage the country is going through, due to the actions of the Donald Trump's administration to tighten the U.S. economic, commercial and financial blockade.

Roberto Conessa García, Commercial Director of the Electric Company in the province, explained to the Cuban News Agency that such result represents, every day, the saving of 17 tons of fuel, a positive aspect in the effort to reduce the demand by 10 percent, according to the needs of the country.

The official said that despite the encouraging step, a stronger and faster response of the residential sector is necessary, which addresses 70 percent of the 48 thousand MW (48 Gigawatt), consumed on average every month in the territory.

Conessa García stressed that they work together with student and grassroots organizations to mobilize citizens in pursuit of saving, while 79 schools have already activated "Click" patrols with the task of visiting buildings located within their range of action.

In this regard, Carlos Arias Sobrino, director of the Electric Company, said that with practical and simple measures it is possible to save electricity in each home, a contribution that valued as crucial at peak times (11:00 am-1:00 pm / 6:00 pm-10:00 pm).

In the state sector, experts from the National Office for the Rational Use of Energy (Onure by its Spanish acronym), maintain a constant supervision, Yuri Mora Leyva, deputy director of the entity, explained; and also highlighted the continuous presence of a specialist in energy policy in hospitals, in order to advise managers and create an awareness of saving in these centers, large consumers of electricity.

Regarding the fuel trade, the gradual growth of the sale, with an average of 12.65 liters per operating transport license, a figure that rose when compared to the end of the previous year, when a figure of 0.18 liters per private driver was reported.

Mora Leyva related these results with the confrontation of illegalities, undertaken by the administrations and jointly developed by the Onure, the Prosecutor's Office, the National Revolutionary Police, the Comptroller Office and other bodies of the Provincial Energy Council.
