Young University Students Rise-up in Face of Energy Crisis

On the Pepito Tey campus of the University of Las Tunas, the "25 Aniversario" Contingent of the University Student Federation was constituted, which aims to support the implementation of the measures adopted by that institution, in face of the current energy crisis in the country.

Las Tunas, Cuba.- The rector of the house of high studies, Aurora Ramos de las Heras, told 26Digital that the "25 Aniversario" Contingent will develop dissemination actions in the brigades and faculties to raise awareness among the students of the need to actively collaborate with the energy savings provisions that are implemented. They will also check compliance with the center's program of measures.

During his tour of this province to review the provisions taken by the local government of the territory, the president of the Councils of State and Ministers, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, celebrated the initiatives of young people, including the creation of such student brotherhood. He pointed out the importance of the role that its members will play in public communication, in the context of the energy situation that the country is going through due to the intensification of the blockade.

He said that people who are in the management positions in the Party, the Government and the administration in municipalities and provinces were young people when the Special Period arrived, and today they are involved in management tasks. He added that many young people who today work hard with the most experienced will be those who may have high responsibilities tomorrow.

The University made an adjustment in its routines and substantive processes, reduced the duration of class shifts, modified the schedules of the laboratories, the pumping of water and the operation of its dining rooms.

Likewise, a flexible schedule is applied for non-teaching workers. They also enhance the work of teachers from their homes with specific tasks, guarantee the rational use of the assigned fuel and protect the vehicle fleet in the school areas, among other provisions.

One of the most important actions implemented by the institution was the movement of the students during the last week of September to their municipalities of origin. In each of the localities, and with the attention of the municipal university centers, students develop other activities.
