Las Tunas, Cuba.- This is a positive signal for the sugar mills to be tested with sufficient time before the beginning of the campaign: the "Majibacoa" on November 22nd; the "Colombia", at the end of that month; and the "Antonio Guiteras ", on December 5th.
It was very important for the repairs, the process of cleaning, disarmament, diagnosis and conservation of the machinery that was previously carried out, Salvador Santos Longoria, director of Industry of the Sugar Company of Las Tunas, told the local press.
The territory has the challenge of making a good harvest in the midst of the serious economic difficulties Cuba is going through, said the director, who confirmed that the Amancio Rodríguez sugar mill will not be part of the harvest.
This sugar factory, located in the southern region of the province, has been one of the most critical in the country in recent campaigns. This time, its canes will be milled by the "Colombia", at a distance of 30 kilometers.
Simultaneously to the work in the industries, the sugarcane producers in Las Tunas have the task of sowing seven thousand hectares from July to December.
Although in the last harvest the province produced 49 thousand tons of sugar more than in that of 2017-2018, it owed 22 thousand tons to the plan, due to climate adversities, non-efficient organization and waste of the milling potential capacity, among other causes.
