Las Tunas, Cuba.- Jesús Peñate Rodríguez, production specialist in this entity, told 26Digital "the nature tourism trail, the only one of its kind in Cuba, is located in the Palo Seco region, in the municipality of Jobabo, very close to where artisanal charcoal production is going to be observed; and it constitutes a historical site of great relevance, due to the homonymous battle, which occurred on December 2, 1873 during the so-called 10-year War, one of the most extraordinary samples of the tactical capacity of Máximo Gómez, Chief General of the Liberating Army."
The attraction of the place lies mainly in the artisanal production of marabou charcoal. Lagoons, migratory birds, and the planting of various crops such as cassava, corn and squash, which the coal sellers use for their own consumption, can also be seen.
This tour, of about six hours, begins in the Ojo de Agua-Monte Cabaniguán wildlife refuge, and then access the space where the furnaces are built - where they will make a stopover to explain the process for charcoal elaboration.
"In addition to this exchange with charcoal producers, foreigners and national visitors will meet history at the Palo Seco monument; and then they will go to the benefit plant, where they can observe the entire process from its classification according to established quality parameters, until its packaging in bags of different weight, complying with the requirements of the customers, " said the specialist.
The situation that the country is currently going through urges to implement strategies that contribute to its economic and social development with local initiatives. In that sense, as the president of Cuba Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez explained, tourism is the sector that has maintained good levels of activity, which gives life to a dynamic that reverses problems into solutions.
