The ensuring of the teaching plans, the relevance of the scientific work, and the implication of all the factors, stands out among the tasks in which the University of Las Tunas is enrolled to submit to the accreditation system of Higher Education in Cuba, a process that will be carried out from November 23rd to 30th.

Las Tunas, Cuba.- The evaluation, which will be developed by more than 40 experts from all over the country, will be aimed at measuring the main indicators of the methodological, research and extracurricular work of the house of high studies within five years, as well as its current state and the main projections aimed at sustaining and improving the center.

Yoenia Virgen Barbán Sarduy, first vice-rector of the University of Las Tunas, explained to the Cuban News Agency, that since the beginning of the course they work to ensure the teaching program that will take place in November; meetings are held primarily with first-year students, taking into account that they have never participated in a similar process before.

At this stage -added the Doctor of Science-, we have delivered the self-assessment report to the National Accreditation Board, with the main strengths and weaknesses of the center. Likewise, with this report, we are in direct contact with the employers' bodies, the Organs of the Central State Administration (OACE) and the Business System of the province, as each of them has a key implication in the implementation of projects from the University.

With the objective of updating the existing agreements, at the end of the current month a University-Company-OACE meeting will be held, in which new lines of work will be established based on the conceptions of local development and the projections of the institution, in direct connection with the strategic objectives of the territory, said Barbán Sarduy.

The first vice-rector also said that the National Accreditation Board is expected to select three of the five faculties of the University of Las Tunas in its two campuses, and three of the seven municipal university centers in the province.

Exams of History of Cuba, Marxism, the assessment of the institutional context and its relevance, the projection of academic and teaching scientific growth, training in undergraduate, research and postgraduate, infrastructure and impact, are among the variables to be measured to grant one of the three categories: qualified, certified or excellence.

The last variable, the one related to the impact, is of great importance because it gathers everything that is generated in the field of research, groups the application of the projects and how they contribute with results in the social and economic order, both inside and outside the educational institution, stressed the directive.

The University of Las Tunas comprises five faculties and 39 majors in their different specialties, including the recently opened Bachelor of Tourism. The Center has six accredited majors; and two others that underwent the evaluation process in the month of May and currently await the imposition of a category.

In addition, within the postgraduate training, three of the 12 master's programs are already evaluated, and the Ph.D. in Pedagogical Sciences holds the Category of Excellence, which represents a reference in this area and places the center in a favorable position within the indicators to be evaluated in the accreditation process.
