Las Tunas, Cuba .- This Wednesday is scheduled the main celebration at the headquarters of the Sugar Company, in this eastern city, but the activities in the labor groups will continue until Sunday 13, as it was confirmed by the secretary-general of the Union of that sector in the province, Carmen Rosa Tamayo.
The occasion will be a good moment to reaffirm the responsibility of timely finishing the preparations for the next harvest, which will begin in November.
In this regard, the union leader pondered the commendable effort made so far, which translates into nearly 2,000 equipment -among them combined cutters, tractors, carts and crop implements- ready and more than 80 percent progress of industrial repairs.
Likewise, the strategies to advance in the planting of sugarcane and various crops, the integral clean and other cultural attention to the plantations, through greater use of animal traction and manual means will be addressed.
Tamayo said that during the event to be held today, the Jesús Suárez Gayol distinction will be awarded to a representation of the 224 workers with 20 and 25 years of outstanding and uninterrupted work in the Sugar Agro-industry, as well as the six best basic units of cooperative production (UBPC) of the province, union boards, the Tecnoazúcar base business unit and other workers that highlighted for their contribution to the Maternal and Child Care Program.
Young workers Laira Leyva Pupo and Yadier Hechevarría Fernández, who command the production and manufacturing departments, respectively, at the Antonio Guiteras and Majibacoa sugar mills, as well as Adonis Ramírez Serrano, mechanic at the mill area of that last factory, will be recognized.
The award ceremony will conclude with the delivery of a special recognition to the "Majibacoa," the only complier of Las Tunas in the last harvest and the one that contributed the greatest amount of sugar - more than eight thousand tons - to the national economy.
"So we will take advantage of this celebration to praise those who deserve it, but also to summon the nearly 14,000 members of our Union to a decisive effort, aimed at advance in the recovery of the sugar cane areas; and finish successfully the repairs in the sugar mills, reception centers, cutting and load an transport equipment, and railway facilities," the union leader told 26Digital.
