The tourism sector in this eastern Cuban province, both state and private, adjusts its infrastructure for the start of the high season of the foreign market, confirmed the industry authorities without chimneys here during a press conference.

Las Tunas, Cuba.- Giarlis Melenilla Romero, delegate of the Ministry of Tourism (Mintur) in Las Tunas, said that despite the intensification of the U.S. blockade, whose impact was evident in the supply of fuel to the country, the hotel facilities remained operational, something that, he insisted, will continue to be so in the future.

"It is our country's policy to prioritize supplies for the importance they have for the country's economy."
Melenilla Romero also reported that "the hotel Brisas Covarrubias, the main exponent of the branch in the province, will begin operations a little later than usual. The delay in opening, which usually occurs at the beginning of the eleventh month of each year, is due to undelayable repair work. The remodeling work, he explained, encompasses vital systems such as water supply, electricity and others that will enable us to provide a better service.

He also said that during the past season the reduction of personnel in the Canadian embassy in the country affected the arrival of vacationers from the northern nation to the "Covarrubias. The influx of tourists from the northern nation fell by 13 percent over previous stages. However, he said that the hotel occupancy levels were not as affected by the 24 percentage points increase in the national market presence.

Similar actions of improvements in their service standards occur in other relevant hotels in the territory such as Tunas and Cadillac. The first will soon have a new elevator for guests and another one for service, while eight of its rooms were completely renovated. In the Cadillac, for its part, some of its areas will be immediately modified in a joint project with the Cuban Fund for Cultural Heritage to enhance the beauty and elegance of a building that on October 30 will celebrate 11 years of reopening.

During the informative contact, it was informed that the Popular Camping Company will keep all its facilities open and that it already sells reservations until January 20, 2020. Elvira Ricardo Castro, its commercial director, indicated that the relative recovery in the availability of fuel puts them in better conditions to guarantee a greater percentage of the transfer of the campers.

Representatives of travel agencies and companies specializing in non-hotel services said the same. The agency Ecotur, said its director here, Eduardo de la Hoz Alvarez, already designed several options of excursions for the tourism of city and nature, for national and foreign tourists. De la Hoz Álvarez announced that they are preparing tourist projects in the Monte Cabaniguán Wildlife Refuge with the probable insertion of the Russian market in nature tourism.

Palmares Extra-hotels Business Group S.A. has already seen an improvement in the arrival of the most demanded assortments by its clients, especially soft drinks and beer, stated its director in Las Tunas, Jorge Parra Rodríguez. Moreover, the chain of Caracol stores announced the reactivation of the offers in some of its units.
