About 700 thousand pesos have been granted for bank loans with special conditions to those affected by Hurricane Irma in this province, for the undertaking of constructive actions or the purchase of equipment and goods.

Las Tunas, Cuba.- The majority of the 362 beneficiaries with this modality belong to the municipalities of Puerto Padre, Jesus Menéndez and Manatí, the most affected by the meteorological phenomenon, which on September 8 passed about 100 kilometers of the north cost of this eastern region, causing coastal floods, winds above 100 kilometers per hour and intense rains.
Nidia Rodríguez Vega, president of the Popular Savings Bank (BPA by its Spanish acronym) in Las Tunas, told 26Digital that a specialist of the entity is at full-time in each of the 43 offices authorized for this situation in the territory with the purpose of making the process more expeditious and bring the service closer to the ravaged communities.
This is the first time that a process of this type is undertaken here, although the workers of Las Tunas banking system had previous experience in 2015, when Hurricane Sandy hit the southeast of Cuba, and about twenty specialists from the Easter Balcony supported this governmental initiative, explained Rodríguez Vega.
The directive pointed out that in the case of construction materials the minimum amount is 300 Cuban pesos up to the maximum indicated by the technical file issued by the Municipal Housing Directorates, whereas for goods and household appliances minimum limits has not been established.
The Cuban State has discounted up to 50 percent of the prices, and credits are payable in 15 years with an interest rate of 2.5 percent, said the BPA director.
According to the regulations established by the Government of the Island after the passage of Hurricane Irma, the national banking system will grant credits to those affected with payment capacity, over 18 years of age, having employment, self-employed, retirees or farmers, to acquire the means granted to them in order to compensate damages caused by the meteor.
