More than one inhabitant of Las Tunas feels squeezed when crossing the boundaries of this land and discovers that the legacy of Major General Vicente García González is offended and ignored.

The debates are remarkable when being or not "vicentista" turns into a sort of position before life.
Much remains to be done so that "El León de Santa Rita" to occupy the place he won by force of machete in hand and extreme bravery; although, it is true that recent research shows hints of fairness in this regard.
It was Vicente García who put the definitive date to the uprising that gave life to the Ten Years War, and only the denunciation made it obligatory to advance the day for October 10th.
Experts say he organized an effective intelligence service, which places him in the annals of Cuban military security. He made the assault on enemy convoys a specialty in the struggle. He used to assault the towns at dawn and no one remembers that he was ever defeated in these episodes, because of his milimetric military organization.
The rich descendant of the original owner of the Las Tunas Ranch became President of the Republic in Arms. He was close to Antonio Maceo in the Baraguá Protest, one of the most intense pages in the history of Cuba. In addition, he turned out to be among the first ones summoned by José Martí to the Necessary War.
This 23rd of January marks the 185th anniversary of his birth. The day of tribute will extend until the 28th, anniversary of the birth of José Martí, National Hero. In addition to the commemorative act, there will be a gala, between music and poems, in front of the natal house of the legendary patriot.
Vicente García burned Las Tunas once, so that it would never again be slave. Today, in freedom, many places of the city are named after such illustrious mambí, as a silent and daily homage of those who do not forget the lineage and the feat.
