The work carried out in the last two months of 2017 was decisive for the Sugar Company of Las Tunas to plant 300 hectares of sugarcane more than those foreseen for the November-April campaign, coinciding with the dry period.

Las Tunas, Cuba .- Danilo Infante, head of the Cane Group, explained to the ACN that of not having surpassed the plan last November and December, the program would have delays, because in the previous month they could not plant or prepare the soil, for the excess of rains.
As it is established by the planting program for this stage of the year, we are preparing the areas under irrigation - 1, 422 hectares -, taking into account that from this date is may not relied on rainfall until the beginning of the spring, the specialist said.
He argued that according to the records of the sugar company, the historical rainfall average in January is 30 millimeters (mm), however, in the first month of 2018 rain gauges recorded 144 mm, very beneficial for reservoirs, but harmful to the cane planting process.
Despite imponderables - he added - we must comply the plan of the year, 18,081 hectares, equivalent to 1,500 more than in the recently concluded year, which would guarantee the raw material for the 2019-2020 harvest.
