Las Tunas, Cuba.- Interruptions in electrical service affected more than1,225 homes in the settlements of Salgacero, San Agustín and Santa María; as well as the roofs of 152 houses suffered partial damages, while seven others lost it completely, according to a report of the local radio station.

The authorities reported preliminarily impacts on 35 hectares of tobacco, 60 of plantain and around 700 of sugarcane. The harvest is stopped by the humidity of the fields, and the gradual recovery of electricity has begun.
Last Sunday, around 3:30 in the afternoon, a severe local storm occurred to the south of "Jesús Menéndez", with a rainfall record of 105.3 millimeters and the fall of hail the size of a 20 cent coin. The phenomenon lasted about an hour and a half, with the occurrence of lightning and gusts of wind exceeding 100 kilometers per hour.
Specialists from the Provincial Meteorology Center confirmed to 26Digital that the final days of April and, mainly, the month of May, are those with the highest record of meteorological events of this type, due to the diurnal heating and humidity of the environment, which favors the formation of a convective line that causes such storms.
This was the second severe local storm reported in less than a week in the province.
