There are limitations with the fuel for clearing infected areas

The Integral Agricultural Company of the province of Las Tunas has put into practice a working system that brings substantial benefits: clearing marabou to produce charcoal for exportable purposes and, in turn, allocating that land to the fostering of various crops.

Las Tunas, Cuba.- Without neglecting its main state mandate, livestock, the entity is immersed in exploiting possibilities that were not part of its agenda before, but today's realities with the lack of resources, have forced it to seek alternatives so as not to freeze its objectives and support the economy.

Alberto González Hernández, director of the entity, exclusively to the Cuban News Agency, explained that the experience in the production of charcoal began in 2017, when 65 tons were obtained.

In the following years - the manager added - there were important jumps with 860 tons in 2018, 1,050 in 2019, and 1,400 in the previous 2020, although not all charcoal is first class, it is also produced second.

The quality of this product for export, he said, depends on the available marabou, but we have limitations with the fuel for clearing infected areas, which may hinder our intention to provide five thousand tons of charcoal that we have planned for the future.

Objectively, the lack of fuel obstructs the way, but it does not invalidate us to continue contributing, since we also use a derivative of charcoal, the cinder, and we plan to take advantage of the dust of this product, González Hernández stressed.

The agricultural manager said that, in the municipality of Majibacoa, briquettes are produced from this derivative, which is ground and supplied with binding elements, such as the sugar cane filter cake generated by the sugar mill in that territory.

Briquettes are an alternative for mini-industries and kitchens that usually use fossil fuels to cook food.

The Las Tunas Integral Agricultural Company also plans to develop hot peppers and other crops with a view to export, without neglecting attention to the livestock mass through the sowing of protein plants, the guarantee of water for the animals, and the rotation by paddocks, similar to the Voisin system.
