Las Tunas Lumberjacks will defend their crown at the 63rd Baseball Series

The Lumberjacks announced their roster on the way to the 63rd Cuba’s National Baseball Series and the defense of the title achieved the last season, with an average age of 27 years, in addition to eight rookies, to reaffirm the mix of youth and experience.

Las Tunas, Cuba.- The group of 40 athletes is made up of five catchers, 11 infielders, seven outfielders, and 17 pitchers, who aim to preserve the elite status earned during the golden cycle of Las Tunas baseball. Although some casualties are obvious, the core of the team remains intact while new talents will also opt for a certain prominence throughout the schedule.

With a mandatory rest for a large part of the participants in the 2nd Elite League, those led by Abeysi Pantoja completed seven weeks of training, under individualized treatment and the continuity of the loads at the beginning of the season.

If in previous editions the pitching staff was haunted by uncertainties, this time it looks in all capital letters like the Achilles' heel, hence the premise turns out to make the offensive, once again, the trump card.

The absences of Carlos Juan Viera, in a provisional suspension as part of a process resulting from an out-of-competition anti-doping control, along with that of Ángel Sánchez -for personal reasons- endorse the previous statement. Also, Yaser Pérez's abandonment of the training concentration leaves a void in the ranks of the red-and-green squad that loses a strong hitter.

With Alejandro Meneses disabled for the first stage, the debate over who will take the responsibility of being the starter on the opening day hovers over the names of Yasel Labrada and Rubén Rodríguez. The rest of the rotation, up to five arms, will be the task of Eliánder Bravo, Yoelkis Cruz Jr., and Leandro Cañada.

In another nod to history, Dánel Castro will take to the field for the 30th consecutive season, in search of increasing his reign in hits (2,501) in domestic classics. So far, the legendary number 1 of Las Tunas will take to the field only in the "Mella."

The representatives of the Balcón de Oriente (Eastern Cuban Balcony) will draw the curtains of the season against Industriales, on March 9, in a reissue of the 62nd Series finals.
