The deterioration of its main facility is one of the hurdles to the development of Athletics.

Between obstacles and in the shadow of various sports, Las Tunas Athletics consolidates its steps ahead of the next events. With the inconvenience of not having a court under the recommended quality standards, the coaches, through inventiveness, manage to bring out the talent of their disciples.

Las Tunas, Cuba.- The journey of Las Tunas in the universe of the oval, in recent times, has been characterized by the emergence of stars in distant tests, from speed to endurance, without setting a stable pace but rather as clarities within a panorama with many debts.

Regarding the upcoming commitments of the oldest sporting practice, Wiliam Demot, commissioner in the province, told Radio Victoria that “our athletes continue training for the main competitions that are coming up in the year. In March, we begin with the National Fund Festival, to be held from the first to the 4th in Villa Clara; we will have the participation of five athletes, along with their coach. Then, the Ibero-American of Varadero would come, which we will attend with an athlete of each sex. This area of long distances is one of the best in our territory and these events will be favorable. Likewise, in May, we will compete in the Eastern Zone, in the school category; while for the youth category, still pending, we are in Group B, and we will have 17 youngsters competing in June."

In a similar situation to other disciplines, work at the base, or what is the same: in the municipalities, condemns the search for new talents for training centers. Schools constitute the treasure chest of passions for racing, jumping, and throwing, therefore, eyes should turn in that direction. With such a limitation, achievements elude endorsement, but the determination to achieve good work preserves the hope of a future with a better appearance.

“We will have 18 representatives in the School Games, which leads us to predict a place between sixth to eighth in the general standing. Last year, we fell from fifth to ninth. Therefore, for this calendar, the number of athletes assigned to us by the National Commission is limited to that number (18) and they placed us in Key C, so the main objective is to recover a place within Key B to seek better results in 2025. Despite this reality, we have eight students with prospects of entering the National School, with the greatest possibilities for Leroy Peña Escalona, in the sport walking modality.”

In addition to the internal difficulties, the so-called king of sports coexists in the Cuban Eastern Balcony with the cross that signifies the current economic situation the country is going through; while the aspiration for improvement lies in that balance of preparation and experience in the competition, in a double-flow bond.
