judoThe Cuban Judo artist Idalys Ortiz won her eigth career medal in World Judo Championships, after taking home a Silver in the Women's +78kg division in the 2019 World Judo Championship that is taking place in Japan.

Havana, Cuba.- In order to reach the fourth World Championship Finals in her career, Ortiz won 4 match-ups, but in the Gold Medal Bout she was defeated by Japanese Akira Sone. Now the Cuban athlete sums eight medals in this type of events, two Gold, two Silver and four Bronze.

The Cuban team had not won any medal in the six days of competition previous to Ortiz' Silver, who after this performance of four wins and one loss, is consider undoubtedly as the best Cuban Jodo artist of the decade.

Idalys Ortiz defeated Monica Sagna from Senegal, and Vanessa Mballa from Cameroon, both by via disqualification. Against Brazilian Beatriz Souza, Ortiz won by immobilizing her rival and in the Semi-Finals, she defeated also Brazilian Maria Suelen by Wazari.

The other Cuban athlete who competed this Saturday was the Lima 2019 Pan-Am champion Andy Granda, but he lost in the second round to Romanian Vladic Siminescu. (RHC)
