Cuba will participate in the fifth China International Import Exhibition (CIIE) with a virtual pavilion, where it will promote the exports of its main products and services, diplomatic sources confirmed.

Beijing.- The Cuban ambassador, Carlos Miguel Pereira, specified that items such as coffee, rum, tobacco, and lobster are included in the exhibition, in addition to the latest biopharmaceutical industry and tourist, cultural, and educational attractions.

Pereira called Cuba’s participation in the event an “always valuable opportunity to promote and expand exports of new rubles and services, as well to enhance economic and trade relations” between the two countries.

Cuba has been attending the CIIE since its beginning in 2018 and its representatives made comments to Prensa Latina on a positive balance, as it led to multiple business exchanges in different sectors, contract signings, and an important group of letters of understanding with well-marked interests in the sale of household products.

In 2020, Cuba signed an agreement with China National Huayen Energy for the sale of coffee brands such as Serrano and Turquino, and Apisun-brand honey; and another with IDON International Trading for the introduction of green and roasted coffee.

China launched this initiative in 2018 with the idea of raising its level of trade openness, promoting economic globalization, and developing the Silk Road project, inspired by ancient mercantile routes to link the country with other continents in a great infrastructure network and cooperation. (PL)
