Havana, Cuba.- The domestic team beat Puerto Rico 3-1 (21-25, 25-15, 25-15 and 27-25) and had overall balance of 2 wins and no loss, as in their debut they defeated Mexico 3-0 (25-16, 25-22, 25-21).
The local Marlon Yang was the top scorer of the match with 19 points, and was supported by the also wing spiker Osniel Mergarejo (10), opposite hitter Jesús Herrera and center Roamy Alonso (8 each), while Pelegrín Vargas (15) highlighted for the losing side.
Puerto Rico had previously defeated Mexico 3-2 (19-25, 25-15, 22-25, 25-23 and 15-13).
Middle blocker Alonso earned the tournament MVP award, while the also locals Herrera and Adrián Goide were the best opposite hitter and setter, respectively; Yang was the leader in service and reception and Miguel Ángel López highlighted in attack.
The top scorer award went to Puerto Rican Javier Rodriguez (36 points), while his teammate Amel Cabrera was the best defender and libero. (acn)
