Farmers from Las Tunas aim to increase roductions

The peasants with whom I have contacted by telephone show a high level of satisfaction regarding the measures adopted in Cuba to expand the distribution of agro-food, very important for a province where more than 80 percent of the agricultural productions come out of the hands of this force.

Las Tunas, Cuba.- With these words, Roberto Medrano Ledezma, president of the National Association of Small Farmers (ANAP) in Las Tunas, referred to the new measures that will be analyzed in detail in each production base starting this Friday.

This is the time to be more useful and seek economic solvency in each cooperative, he added, because, besides fulfilling the main corporate purpose, income can be obtained by exploiting other productions and being able to market them in the retail network.

Of course, you have to be responsible, as is traditional in our peasantry, to fulfill the contracted production and then have a margin to decide its destination. And that is called more work and efficiency, the leader of small farmers in the province said.

On the subject, Aldo Rodríguez Prieto, president of the Omar Pérez Pérez credit and services cooperative (CCS), from the municipality of Las Tunas, stressed that the board of directors and associates will meet, with the conviction that there will be a positive reaction and greater encouragement to work more and find solutions to problems.

Although it is specialized in the cultivation of fruit trees, the members of this CCS have diversified production that will contribute to obtaining greater income, Rodríguez said and assured that the cooperative members will respond to the unsatisfied demands of the population for revolutionary conviction and by feeling incentivized to have more economic solvency.

Other peasants interviewed by the Cuban News Agency considered that, without discussion, the measures are in tune with the situation of the country, affected by the economic contraction and the COVID-19; but it is essential to better exploit the land, take advantage of resources and apply science and technology.
