Ankara.- According to the official statement, the three leaders will be accompanied by their energy ministers, senior officials and the heads and shareholders of the companies involved in the Southern Gas Corridor (SGC) project.
The ceremonial act will serve to put into operation most of TANAP, 1,340 km of the 1,850 it has, receiving the gas from the Southern Caucasus pipeline, which links the Shah Deniz-2 Azeri site in the Caspian Sea with Georgia.
These two pipelines will be joined in the future by the Trans-Adriatic Gas Pipeline (TAP), completing the GSC project, which will serve to introduce the supply in Europe through Greece, Albania and the Adriatic Sea, to reach Italy.
Azerbaijan inaugurated the terminal on May 29th, which will be the starting point for the GSC, while Turkey has still to complete its last section connecting the town of Ipsala, on the Greek border, with the pipeline which will supply European countries and which is expected to be operational in 2020.
TANAP has had an investment of some 8.5 billion dollars and its total annual capacity will be 16 billion cubic meters, of which 10 billion will be sent to Europe and 6 billion will be used to cover national energy needs. (PL)
