Seoul, -  The Defense Ministers of South Korea and the United States discussed an eventual suspension of joint military maneuvers, following the recent declaration by U.S. President Donald Trump, the South Korean Defense Ministry revealed today.

The U.S. President said at a press conference in Singapore last Tuesday, after the historic summit with the leader of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), Kim Jong-un, that he will stop the 'war games' with South Korea for considering them provocative, expensive, and inadequate.

South Korean President Moon Jae-in also expressed yesterday his willingness to suspend military exercises.

Although, like the United States, it conditioned them to the implementation of denuclearization measures by the DPRK.

According to the Seoul Ministry of Defense, its top representative, Song Young-moo, and his U.S. counterpart, James Mattis, held a telephone conversation today for 30 minutes to exchange views on the maneuvers, including the summer Ulchi Freedom Guardian exercise.

The two Ministers agreed to continue the efforts -based on the strong South Korea-U.S. alliance- for a faithful and swift implementation of the Singapore summit agreement, a press release from the aforementioned Ministry stated.

Also, during the talks, Song pointed out the need for a 'flexible change' in terms of military pressure on North Korea, in line with the declaration of the inter-Korean summit on April 27 between Kim and President Moon, Yonhap News Agency reported.
