US President Donald Trump today launched strong warnings to his Iranian counterpart, Hassan Rouhani, amid escalating tensions between the two countries after Washington''s decision to leave the nuclear deal with Tehran.

Washington.- "To Iranian President Rouhani: Never, ever threaten the United States again or you will suffer consequences the likes of which few throughout history have ever suffered before," Trump said on Twitter on Sunday.

Trump's statement came after Rouhani on Sunday called on Washington to stop its provocations against the Persian nation, in reference to increasingly hostile policies by the US administration.

"The US must understand very well that peace with Iran is the mother of all peaces and war with Iran is the mother of all wars," the president noted in Tehran at a meeting with the heads of Iranian diplomatic missions.

The Iranian people will defeat any threat from the White House, added Rouhani, who in reference to the sanctions promoted by Washington noted that they will have some costs, but in the end, the benefits will be more for his people.

Tensions between the two countries have escalated since May 8, when Trump decided to withdraw unilaterally from the nuclear deal signed in 2015 by Iran and the Group 5+1 (United States, France, United Kingdom, China and Russia plus Germany). (PL)
