COVID-19 in Las Tunas

Local health authorities report that there are no suspected COVID-19 patients or contacts admitted to isolation centers, a good news that shows the favorable epidemiological situation and the sustained work in this eastern Cuban province.

Las Tunas, Cuba.- Since the first case was isolated here (on March 14 and tested positive on the 19th), it is the first time that no income has been reported. However, from the Provincial Health command post, they call for maintaining hygienic measures and social distancing, as the prevention to avoid the spread of SARS-CoV-2.

According to the last report, 16 travelers remain under surveillance at Cerro de Caisimú, one more than the previous day, from Italy. All are without symptoms of the disease and in good health.

Dr. Jesús Manuel León Silva, head of the command post, recalled that it was recently decided not to hospitalize people from other areas of the country when arriving in the territory of Las Tunas, but they will be controlled by their Health area for 14 days. It is important that the population report these cases so as not to leave loose ends and that the travelers themselves do not hide possible symptoms.

Yesterday, 50 results were received and another 50 samples were sent, accumulating 3,875. No quick testing kids were applied, so the figure remains at 3,581.
157,667 people were subject of the active inquiry by Primary Health Care, 31 were detected with respiratory symptoms and none were referred for admission. Regarding the Virtual Inquirer, 49 inhabitants reported their health status and there are already 11,350 online surveys.

To date, 17 positive for the disease, 16 recovered and one deceased have been confirmed in Las Tunas. It is valid to clarify that, although it has not been included within the local statistics, a patient from this territory was reported related to the merchant ship that arrived from Mexico to the province of Matanzas, where he remains admitted as the rest of related cases.

So the contagion of this person and his contacts has no epidemiological link with the province; it is an imported case.

At the usual press conference, Dr. Francisco Durán García, national director of Epidemiology of the Ministry of Public Health, announced that Cuba reported at the closing of Monday, June 8, five positive cases, for a total of two thousand 205 positive for SARS-CoV-2. It is the tenth consecutive day without deaths and 12 medical discharges were given.
