Moscow.- From the National Defense Direction Center, Putin personally gave the order to launch in winter conditions the aforementioned system that carries a winged missile of remote-controlled trajectory with hypersonic speed.
The Avangard was launched from the Dombarovskiy missile base in the southern Ural Mountains and successfully hit a designated practice target on the Kura shooting range on Kamchatka, 6,000 kilometers (3,700 miles) away, the Kremlin press service reported.
During the flight, the missile made maneuvers in vertical and horizontal directions, according to the anticipated drawn trajectory, said the same source.
Putin said that with this launch, the country begins a new stage in its military development, by having a new type of weapon, because it is a strategic hypersonic missile.
Despite having a mass in its start between 50 and 60 tons, the Avangard (RS-26) travels at a hypersonic speed with a maximum range of six thousand kilometers.
The aforementioned three-stage missile system was among the new weapons announced by Putin on March 1, when he presented his report to the Federal Assembly. (PL)
