Georgetown.- "We have seen advances in the Caricom Single Market and Economy (CSME), the signing of a new Multilateral Agreement of Aviation Services and we participate in the meetings of thew main international partners," stressed Holness, in an end of year message. Relating to the CSME, he asserted that if it operates correctly it will allow for the free circulation of goods, abilities, workforce and services in all the region, essential factor to comply with the objectives of the Reviewed Treaty of Chaguaramas on growth and development of the area's economies.
Holness also unsderlined in his message that to promote greater use of the free circulation regime, leaders adopted the Protocolo n Contingent Rights which will cover the rights of persons that move to another country, as well as its partners and dependents.
The Caricom president mentioned the significant economic and social advances achieved and the presentation of the report of the Regional Commission on Marihuana to the heads of government, who took note of the most important details as that of economic benefits derived from this.
He also highlighted that himself and the president of Haiti, Jovenel Moise, represented Caricom at the G7 summit in Ottawa, Canada; at the Brics Summit in South Africa and the G20 in Argentina.
He emphasized the special relation of the Community and Cuba over the last 46 years when recalling the visit of president Miguel Díaz-Canel, to Jamaica to attend the Summit of Caricom in July, barely three months after assuming the post.
He also referred to relations with Chile, underlined by the trip of president Sebastián Piñera to meet with Caribbean leaders.
"We havwe a lot to be proud of and much more to achieve. Let's remain firm and decided before all the challenges," concluded Holness. (PL)
