The Minister said on Twitter the "treacherous" groups had positioned in the Altamira distributor in the eastern part of Caracas to provoke an attack on the country's institutions.
"We inform the Venezuelan people we are currently confronting and deactivating a small group of military traitors who positioned in the Altamira Distributor to staged a coup d'etat against the Constitution and the peace of the Republic," Rodríguez wrote on the digital media.
For his part, the President of the National Constituent Assembly (ANC), Diosdado Cabello, called on the Venezuelan people this day to gather at the Miraflores Palace (seat of the Executive) to condemn the ongoing coup d'etat.
Cabello explained to the population through a telephone contact with Venezolana de Television that the small group of military personnel who barricaded in the Altamira Distributor, east of Caracas, is already being controlled.
Besides, Rodríguez urged the people to remain on high alert to, along with the FANB, preserve peace in the face of destabilizing attempts by "the extreme right coup plotter and murderer, which has announced its violent agenda for months."
On the other hand, the Venezuelan Minister of Defense, Vladimir Padrino, assured the military personnel "remain firm in defense of the National Constitution and its legitimate authorities." In this sense, he explained that all the military units deployed in the eight Integral Defense Regions report normality in their military headquarters and bases, under the command of their natural commanders.
