Cuba will begin to apply in 2024 the new Law of Natural Resources and Environment System, approved in May 2022 by the National Assembly of People's Power.

Havana, Cuba.- The regulation introduces innovations in the search for financing for environmental and climate issues, including those from territorial sources, said a note from the Ministry of Science, Technology, and Environment (CITMA) published on the X social media.

The Minister of the branch, Elba Rosa Perez, pointed out that the preparatory phase of its introduction requires a process of meetings with the territorial authorities on the scope of the regulation, which has already concluded in the western region of the country and will continue in others.

According to the Minister, the financing for the implementation of the law comes from the state budget, allocations from the entrepreneurial system and other non-state forms, as well as from national funds, international projects, and foreign investments.

The official mentioned the existence in the content of the law of the strengthening of the role of the Ministry of Science, Technology, and Environment in its execution and control in coordination with the remaining representations of the Central State Administration.

If irregularities are committed in the field of environmental policy, the cases may lead to a criminal analysis, although the administrative steps will be exhausted in order to avoid such practices, explained Pérez in her report on the new conceptions of the aforementioned legal provision. (PL)
