Jacques Chirac Will be Buried on Monday after Several Tributes

Former French President Jacques Chirac will be buried Monday after several official and popular tributes, his family confirmed here.

 

Paris.- According to his relatives, the funeral of the statesman deceased on Thursday at the age of 86 will take place under the strictest privacy in the cemetery of Montparnasse, in this capital, where his remains will rest with those of his daughter Laurence, who died in 2016.

Saturday at the Invalides Palace, a popular tribute ceremony will be held in the afternoon, based on 'his strong relationship with the French, in which anyone who wants to participate can do so,' they said.

For its part, the government announced Thursday that Monday will be a day of national mourning and a solemn service will be held at the Saint-Sulpice church to honor the head of State of the V Republic between 1995 and 2007.

According to the official spokeswoman, Sibeth Ndiaye, President Emmanuel Macron will be present at these activities, but will not deliver a speech, and other national and foreign leaders will also attend them.

The Elysee Palace opened its doors on Thursday for the French to sign their condolences in books enabled in this regard until Sunday.

In a message to the country the day before, Macron recognized Chirac's legacy of fraternity and tolerance and highlighted his rejection of the US invasion of Iraq in 2003 and his efforts to end the war in the 90s of the last century (aggression) in Yugoslavia.

He was a great Frenchman, proud of our land and history, defender of a Europe of men and not of markets, committed to nature, respectful of differences and promoter of dialogue between cultures, without any being more important than another, he said.
