Tokyo 2020: IOC to wait four weeks before deciding whether to postpone Olympic GamesThe President of the Cuban Olympics Committee, Roberto León Richards, has assured that Cuba trusts that the International Olympics Committee (IOC) and the organizers of the Tokyo-2020 Olympics will take the best decision on whether they will take place or not.

Havana, Cuba.- In statements to the JIT sports site, León Richards recognized that he understands the requests for postponement and the pressures on the IOC regarding said requests as a result of the current crisis.

León Richards said that the Cuban Olympics Committee is following closely the management of the ICO Executive Board, and added that knowing "we will all defend human health before everything else is 'reassuring'."

"Sunday's statement was a clear sign of the spirit that moves the Olympics: supporting the solution to the pandemic and seeking a better path to hold the Olympics in the presence of all the world's Olympic Committees," said León Richard to JIT.

Regarding Cuba, the president said the COC will act in coordination with the recommendations of IOC and the indications by the Cuban government.

However, he said that the preparation of athletes continues with the utmost protection, for the sake of avoiding contagion at schools and sports facilities in Cuba.

The president of the Cuban Olympics Committee expressed his solidarity with the organizers of this year's Olympics and Paralympics, as well as the sports organizations suffering the impact of the pandemic. (PL)
