The components are already in Las Tunas, except for some accessories

The construction of the Herradura 1 wind farm, in the north of the province of Las Tunas, has never stopped; now, with a reduced financing scheme, but creating the conditions to prepare the civil construction of its collateral facilities.

Las Tunas, Cuba.- While offering information on the status of investments, Carlos Arias Sobrino, the director of the Electric Company in the territory, explained to the Cuban News Agency (ACN) that the construction of the power substation that will receive and convert the energy generated by the park, the largest to be built in Cuba, is advancing.

The manager meant that they work on everything they can so that when the wind turbines are installed they do not have to wait for civil constructions, and thus take advantage of it from the beginning.

He added that they are also working on the construction of the operations and maintenance center, and the conditioning to install a 110-volt line, 26 kilometers long, which will be linked to the Antonio Guiteras substation to transfer the generated energy to the National Power Grid.

The initial project envisaged 34 wind turbines of 1.5 megawatts of power each but, due to economic limitations, it was reduced to 22. Two bases, which consume 734 cubic meters of concrete -including 167 tons of quality cement-, are still to be cast.

The wind turbines are already in Las Tunas but, besides the completion of the bases, other imported accessories are required for the assembly of the technology, at a height of 50 meters.

The natural conditions of the north coast of Las Tunas, characterized by extensive plains and low vegetation, enable the trade winds from the Atlantic Ocean to maintain sustainable air currents of 6.8 meters per second, which has been a basic element for close to the Herradura 1, the Herradura 2 is approved, with a generation similar capacity.
