More than 1,000 migrants and refugees have died or disappeared in the world in the first four months of 2018, the International Organization for Migrations (OIM) reported here today.

Geneva.- IOM spokesman Joel Millman told the press that about 1,067 people have died or disappeared throughout the world due to migrations, including the Mediterranean Sea region.

At the end of April, IOM warned that more than 18,930 undocumented immigrants arrived in Europe across the Mediterranean Sea in the first 16 weeks of 2018 and 570 died in the attempt.

According to reports from the body, the number of deaths in that area up to April represented 59.3 percent of the total number of illegal travelers who died in the world (962).
