Caracas.- In an official statement posted on the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Venezuelan authorities said that the statements made by Pompeo "reaffirm the supremacist policy and the continuous aggression of the Donald Trump regime" against the Venezuelan people and President Nicolás Maduro.
"Mr. Pompeo shows false concern about the situation in Venezuela, while hiding the perverse effects of the implementation of the unilateral coercive measures of his government on the Venezuelan economy," said the statement.
It also said that Trump's administration implement erratic actions, typical of the arrogance and despair of the imperialist policy, that fail again and again given the the strong will of the Venezuelan people.
Finally, the Foreign Ministry statement said that the Venezuelan institutions guarantee that no foreign action will prevent the citizens of this country from democratically deciding their future in the elections of May 20th, "in full exercise of their sovereignty" and "in strict compliance with the Constitution and the laws."
