Damascus.- Speaking to the Greek publication Kathimerini, the leader said that this argument was used by those states as a pretext to attack the Syrian army after terrorist groups were defeated.
After noting that the United States, the United Kingdom, France and their allies seek to destabilize his nation, the President said that these countries also pursue with their violent actions to lift the collapsed morale of the extremists.
He said that they are also trying to prevent government troops from ridding more areas of terrorism in Syria.
In relation to the issue of chemical weapons, he assured that Syria does not possess this type of weapon since 2013, which was verified and confirmed by the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW).
In demonstrating the inconsistency of accusations from Western countries, he assessed that these entities claimed that the army allegedly used chemical weapons in the city of Duma, Ghouta Oriental region, last April, when it had already won the battle against radical groups.
He considered that in an area with high population density like Duma, a chemical attack should cause hundreds or thousands of deaths, and the Westerners only spoke about 45 victims.
It was also questioned how it is possible that the alleged chemical weapons only killed children and women, not armed people; and that the doctors and nurses are healthy after treating the supposed affected by toxic substances without wearing protective clothing.
President Al-Assad, who addressed issues related to the current events in Syria and the region, expressed his conviction that Damascus will completely defeat the operative terrorist groups in the national territory.
To resolve the conflict in this Arab country, he also defended the importance of dialogue between the divergent parties and the implementation of the policy of national reconciliation. (PL)
