Damascus.- After being informed in the last hours by the Syrian authorities of the complete liberation of the district of Hajar al-Aswad and the Palestinian Refugee Camp of Yarmouk, thousands of inhabitants of those territories celebrated the great military triumph.
Between euphoric hugs of residents to the soldiers and the overflow of tears in one or another face, perhaps many shared the feeling of pain for the loss of lives of thousands of civilians, among them beloved children, parents and other relatives.
From areas of the newly liberated region of Eastern Ghouta and Western Ghouta, volleys of mortar shells once came to the neighborhoods of Damascus, the capital of the country, and its surroundings, causing thousands of deaths and injured.
Emotions also surfaced when they learned that in every span of their homeland, after several years of suffering due to the continuous abuses and murders committed by the terrorist group Islamic State, no more acts of violence will occur, as one local resident ensured.
And a sense of comfort came when the government troops hoisted the national flag on the poles of the liberated territories of Hajar al-Aswad, the Yarmouk Camp itself and adjoining neighborhoods such as Yelda, Bebila and Beit Sehem.
Although the devastation of the infrastructure in those places turns out huge after over seven years of war fomented by terrorist groups, with financial and logistical support from the United States and other Western powers, life is reborn in the communities.
Not a few equate the complete success of forces loyal to Damascus in the south of this Arab country with the strategic triumph achieved in 2016 with the liberation of the city of Aleppo, once a fief of extremist formations.
The General Command of the Army and the Armed Forces, assured in a statement that the new victory is particularly important because it means the total elimination of the fiercest components of terrorist organizations.
Now, having around 75 percent of the Syrian territory under the control of the government of the constitutional President, Bashar Al-Assad although the government forces took another victorious step more against the radical groups, the struggle against these violent groups pursues.
Exterminated or evacuated the al- Takfiri of extensive zones near Damascus, the anti terrorist fight seems to focus on points such as, Idlib, province located to about 300 kilometers to the northwest of this capital. (PL)
