United States Secretary of State Antony Blinken arrives in China

United States Secretary of State Antony Blinken arrived in China on Sunday to complete his first visit, postponed four months ago and finally to develop amid ongoing tensions that overshadow bilateral ties.

Beijing.- A brief press report confirmed the arrival of the diplomat in this capital, where he is expected to start his agenda with talks with his counterpart, Qing Gang, and then he will be received by Wang Yi, the head of the Foreign Affairs Commission of the Communist Party of China.

Some reports refer to a possible meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping before ending his visit on Monday.

Although Blinken’s visit has been rumored for days, China confirmed it on Thursday, only after he spoke over the telephone with Foreign Minister Qing on issues considered sensitive in bilateral relations.

The US diplomat is the highest-ranking official of the Joe Biden administration to visit China and the trip takes place in a context dominated by Washington’s sanctions on Chinese companies and interference in matters such as Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Tibet. (PL)
