Grandmothers of Plaza de Mayo announced today the identification of the 133rd grandchild, and they still continue looking.

The Argentinean association Grandmothers of Plaza de Mayo announced today the identification of the 133rd grandchild of those illegally appropriated during the last civil-military dictatorship in this country (1976-1983).

Buenos Aires.- With immense happiness, we announce that we have found him, says a communiqué from the group, which explained that in the next few hours, it will provide more information on the matter.

Almost 40 years after the beginning of the longest democratic period in our history, we are still looking for our grandchildren every day.

Each restitution reaffirms that the Argentine people are with us and decide not to forget, the Grandmothers asserted.

After the 1976 coup d’état, the military regime disappeared 30,000 Argentines, and hundreds of children were kidnapped from their parents or were born during their captivity.

In the former Escuela de Mecánica de la Armada, Campo de Mayo, Pozo de Banfield, and other detention and torture centers, clandestine maternity wards were operated, and 500 children were separated from their mothers.

Some of them were handed over to military families, others were abandoned or sold.

The Grandmothers are still searching for the rest of the grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who also suffered the consequences of the horrors perpetrated by the dictatorship.

In addition, they demand the sanctioning of those responsible for these crimes. (PL)
