The Palestinian Foreign Ministry welcomed the ICJ’s decision to impose provisional measures in the case

Palestine welcomed the ruling by the International Court of Justice (ICJ) placing Israel in the dock for its crimes in the occupied territories.

Ramallah.- The secretary general of the executive committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization, Hussein al-Sheikh, urged the world to stop the war unleashed by Israel against the Gaza Strip.

For his part, Prime Minister Mohammed Shtayyeh said that the ICJ ruling marks the end of Israel’s era of impunity.

The court’s rejection of the request to dismiss the genocide case brought against it by South Africa places Israel in the dock for war crimes, he noted. However, he regretted that the court did not order an immediate ceasefire in the enclave, where over 26,000 deaths have been reported.

The Palestinian Foreign Ministry welcomed the ICJ’s decision to impose provisional measures in the case and considered that the ruling puts an end to a culture of impunity for Israel, reflected in decades of occupation, ethnic cleansing, persecution, and racial segregation.

The president of the Palestinian National Council (Parliament), Rawhi Fattouh, also highlighted the importance of the ruling.

The acceptance of the case means that Israel is in the dock and is being tried for the first time for its crimes, he stressed. (PL)
