Russia is closely following the debates on the rearmament of the European Union (EU) and does not rule out taking measures to ensure its security in this context, Kremlin's spokesman Dmitry Peskov said.

Moscow.- “We see now very intense debates on militarization and development of the defense sector in the European Union. We follow this process closely because the EU positions Russia as its main enemy. All this militarization is directed against Russia,” Peskov told reporters on Friday.

The spokesman stressed that such rhetoric and confrontational projects seen today in Brussels and other European capitals are in strong dissonance with the search for a political settlement path regarding Ukraine.

Peskov added that EU rearmament could be “very worrisome” for Russia and would push it to “respond with appropriate measures to ensure its security.”

On Thursday, the European Union approved an ambitious rearmament program, worth up to 800 billion euros over the next four years.

The 27 plan to ease fiscal rules to facilitate massive defense investment and create a European instrument for 150 billion euros in loans. (PL)
