Cuba's Central Bank officials attending the 31st Plenary of the Egmont Group.

Cuba is sharing its experiences and achievements in the field of financial intelligence at the 31st Plenary of the Egmont Group, a forum taking place this week in Luxembourg, the island's delegation highlighted today.

Luxembourg City.- The event marks the 30th anniversary of the creation of this international body, which comprises 170 countries and serves as a key tool in the fight against terrorism, drug trafficking, and other global threats.

The Caribbean nation is represented by Armando Torres, Deputy Director General of the Financial Operations Investigation Directorate of Cuba's Central Bank, and Yasmary Rodríguez, Knowledge Management Manager of the same institution.

This year’s plenary includes three main sessions, focusing on the autonomy and operational independence of Financial Intelligence Units, resources to combat illicit financing, and the future of the Egmont Secure Web.

During the forum, Cuba is presenting its efforts to enhance information exchange, personnel training, cooperation, and regulatory support. Additionally, it reaffirms its commitment to preventing and combating money laundering, terrorist financing, drug trafficking, corruption, and transnational organized crime.

Cuba is a signatory to multilateral instruments addressing these issues and has been a full member of the Financial Action Task Force of Latin America (GAFILAT) since December 2012, as part of the global Financial Action Task Force (FATF) system. (Cuba Si)
