On July 16, the Fifth Ordinary Period of Sessions of the National Assembly of People's Power (ANPP, for its Spanish acronym) in its 10th Legislature will begin at the Havana Convention Palace, in a complex economic and social context for the country.
Havana, Cuba.- Homero Acosta Álvarez, secretary of the ANPP and of the Council of State, explained that the deputies will analyze, within the framework of the Period of Sessions and as part of the work in permanent commissions, transcendental issues for the socioeconomic life of the nation, among them, the transformation of primary health care, the hygienic-epidemiological situation, prevention in the summer stage, the schedule for the Digital Transformation Policy, and other aspects.
He informed that the compliance and impact of the measures of the Government Program to correct distortions and boost the economy will be evaluated, and the agreements of the previous session, related to the Program, will be checked.
The deputies will also review the progress of the economy in the first half of the year, the liquidation of the 2024 Budget, and the execution of the 2025 Budget.
Likewise, the foreign policy guidelines for the 2025-2028 period will be submitted for approval, the progress of the Government Program for the recovery of the National Electric System will be presented, and they will discuss popular participation in the control mechanisms.
Acosta Álvarez confirmed that the National Institute of Sports, Physical Education and Recreation and the Provincial Government of Camagüey will render accounts, and the results of the high supervision of the Ministry of Transportation will be presented.
The bills on the Cuban Sports System, the General Regime of Contraventions and Administrative Sanctions, the Civil Registry, and the Code of Children, Adolescents and Young People will also be submitted for discussion and approval.
Ana María Mari Machado, Vice-President of the ANPP, highlighted the legislative and control function of the Parliament, and emphasized, within its functions, to advocate for how to make a better country, "with the daily work of the deputies and near the people, as stated by Army General Raúl Castro Ruz".
